Why is the average starting salary for Imperial Software Engineer grads so high. I do know Physics and chemistry are Ideal for engineering. Obviously you can still analyze a circuit whatever kind it may be without knowing Maxwells equations but it is always nice to know the governing laws behind it.

You will need good maths and physics if you are writing scientific well physics-type scientific and engineering programs.

Would physics not be much more important that chemistry. One thing you could do is look for a position at a software engineering company that isnt explicitly related to the engineering side. You dont really need math either aside from basic arithmetic and logic. For more general purposes good maths is better than bad maths but bad maths is often enough and physics may be totally irrelevant.
